Trying to standardize ancient cities
[edit]I was in the process of adding a map with each site when the satellite map was brought back. The info box along with a professional-looking map really enhances every article dealing with Ancient Greek cities in Asia Minor, as other examples that I provided. I haven't removed a single picture except for that one because a Wiki map in unison with a large photo in an infobox gives you everything you want to know at a glance. - I've added back the satellite map back because it provides more detail. Paul August ☎ 18:20, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
standarising greek colonies
[edit]i will apply the commonly used standard template for providing country information. i left rhe core text of the article unchanged only adding a country box and replacing the old satellite map with a new and improved version that was used for cyme (aeolis) not far from Phocaea. designing a country box can be challenge for ancient city states since they had no flag, anthem and often no motto. instead of a coat of arms/flag i applied the local coinage as this was quite often the only distinctive identification of the polis at this period. coins would circulate and each polis and the fame and prestige of cities and colonies would spread through trade and commerce.
dates need confirmation
[edit]feel free to change dates in country box if they are wrong. its hard to put a precise end date for these greek colonies but i generally put Phocaea's end at 546BC the year of the Persian conquest in which the city was abandoned and the colony of Elea established. As for the successor states i added not only the Persian Empire but also the colonies it was responsible for founding as the language and customs of Phocaea continued in their colonies.
Phocaeans and Iberia/Gaul
[edit]Should this page be expanded and include information on the colonies, possibly with maps? JanderVK (talk) 02:06, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
- That'd be cool! As long as it stayed within the bounds of the page (since it isn't on Greek colonies in general). Ckruschke (talk) 18:35, 10 September 2013 (UTC)Ckruschke
