Deletion for off-topic material

[edit]

This provocatively summarised large deletion was made without discussion and was quickly reverted. The IP editor may have a point, however: does Anglo-Saxonism in the 19th century, followed by purported examples until modern times, have much to do with Drake?--AntientNestor (talk) 08:14, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Provocatively summarised"? The edit summary was vile. Given that the information is in the "Legacy and honours" section, it is certainly pertinent to Drake, that old pirate.;-) Carlstak (talk) 13:01, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The examples are fully referenced and explain the historical context for Drake commemorations in Northern California, which is part of Drake’s legacy. It’s not controversial among historians that Drake was a symbol of Anglo-Saxonist ideology in the nineteenth century. This was discussed at length on this Talk page.
The edit summary was crudely antisemitic, not “provocative.” It’s hardly surprising that the author would object to a discussion of white supremacy that is not on their terms. Ynizcw (talk) 09:18, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, both, for the wider context—helpful. AntientNestor (talk) 09:54, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
