I talk too much. This is a proven fact. So, I thought I'd talk about my reasons for editing Wikipedia and related projects. And, just to blow off steam, I figured I'd list my Wiki likes and dislikes.
Why I edit
[edit]Why do I spend time here? I could be goofing off, or working on things that are probably more urgent. Well, on one hand, I find it enlightening to edit. I've learned about a lot of interesting things from viewing articles. Also, it's nice to be in a community of (mostly) intelligent, like-minded people. My ultimate reason, however, is my belief in knowledge. Knowledge has power. I think that this power should be freely available to all who desire it. Wikipedia harnesses the Internet to deliver knowledge to anyone, anywhere. I think that this could have the potential to change the world. Look at the Chinese Wikipedia; it's already become a thorn in the PRC government's side. What we're doing has power.
What I edit
[edit]I edit pretty much any articles that I can get my grubby little hands on. I do a lot of Wikifying, grammar corrections, and the like. I have at least some knowledge of a broad range of subjects, which comes in handy. I've found myself spending a lot of time editing articles related to video and computer games, including the GCOTW articles. When I have time, I also perform administrative tasks such as taking care of closed Vfd debates. I've started helping maintain the Main Page by updating Template:In the news and protecting and unprotecting images featured on it.
