[edit]I have seen confilicting articles about this battle. Most say it was a Filipno victory, but I ran into a few articles saying that Lawton's brigade won.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.218.69.57 (talk) 02:37, 9 April 2005
WRONG NAME OF BATTLE
[edit]"The Battle of Paye" took place in Boac, Marinduque, July 31, 1900! It is well documented in that town, and they celebrate it yearly in that town. THERE IS NO "PAYE"(PLACE, TOWN, CITY, PROVINCE) ANYWHERE NEAR SAN MATEO, RIZAL(Morong)! The Battle of Paye is NOT a well recognized battle as the fall of Lawton, even in the Philippines. Every historian(Filipino or American) will tell you this battle took place at the town of San Mateo(not near and not close by, but at the town itself). This battle is misquoted around the net, possibly because of this wiki page. This should be removed or edited immediately as it is misguided false information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dimasalang49 (talk • contribs) 04:20, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
disputed tag
[edit]The title "Battle of Paye" returns 25 google hits -- whatever the battle is usually called, it's not that. The US army reports that Lawton was killed on 18 Dec 1899, the day before this article indicates [1]. This article [2] also mentions the 19th; perhaps it was at night.jdb ❋ (talk) 04:21, 4 May 2005 (UTC)
alternate name
[edit]This battle in the Philippines is known as the Battle of Paye. In the U.S. it's known as The Battle of San Mateo. They are the same battle. As for google hits I've come up with at least 5 on this battle under this name.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.153.96.184 (talk) 04:18, 7 May 2005
Battle of Paye is in Marinduque!
[edit]I was indeed confused when I read the article about the battle of Paye. I understand that the battle happened in Sityo Paye, Barangay Balimbing, Municipality of Boac, province of Marindquue on July 31, 1900. In fact, the country has just commemorated its 104th anniversary last monday (july 31, 2006). A historical Marker was also installed in the said site courtesy of the National Historical Institute in 1986. I will look for the complete account of the battle as contained in one of the documents of the US War Department.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Mykemarinduque (talk • contribs) 08:49, 7 August 2006
