[edit]How can you prove or tell that paikea is a child to paptuanuku and Ranginui
- The early version of this page was incorrect. Mohi Ruatapu gives a genealogy of Paikea in which he is about 15 or 16 generations after Hine-manuhiri, a daughter of Tane (who was a son of Papatuanuku and Ranginui) - see Reedy 1993:146-147, and note 115, p. 232.Kahuroa 20:38, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
- why is this religious story repeated as verifiable fact? --Charlesknight 13:41, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- It isn't. The article begins, "According to Māori tradition,...". Nor has the story got any religious content; but the article suggests the influence of biblical narrative on some of the details. Koro Neil (talk) 01:46, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Gender
[edit]In the entry Ruatapu it states that Ruatapu is male, but in this entry s/he is female. Can anyone help? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Si1965 (talk • contribs) 23:11, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
- In the original article, Ruatapu was male. User 76.104.168.23 feminised him in a series of edits on Feb 14, 2008. A few edits on other articles by the same user don't appear vandalistic in intent. This is the only female Ruatapu I have encountered. Possibly the editor concerned knows a variant of the story where Ruatapu is a woman. If that is the case, it would be better (I think) to have Ruatapu as male, with a comment added (if anyone knows this for sure) that in some variants Ruatapu is Kahutia-te-rangi's sister. I just started remasculinising Ruatapu, but there are citations of Reedy with feminine pronouns, which may be the the editor's source for a female Ruatapu. I can't alter a direct quote without seeing the actual source, so I am leaving it in the meantime. Koro Neil (talk) 01:39, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
