Layout
[edit]Hello, looks better than what I did. I will try to use the wiki syntax for making tables, although I am used to HTML. The tambons are allright right? If you like it, can you write me a German version in such a way that I just need to fill in the amphoe name, data and tambon names. That way I can do everything at my home computer and if time permits and with small provinces finish about a province every 2 days in 3 languages. Waerth 13:07, 6 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- I am not that much happy with that table for the tambon, I prefer them to be more like the Amphoe lists I made in the provinces article, or the tambon list in Surat Thani - a table (to save space), but without any borders or colors. And I think the infobox should also have the province, and of course (once we have one) the map. I am still unsure whether the name should be inside the infobox, or above it (compare the boxes of Surat Thani province and Chumphon province) - yet that one we can also change later once the template becomes usable. Let me work a bit on it tonight first - and obviously we need some more contents than just the basic facts and the list of tambon... andy 13:38, 6 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Content we can add later, I was thinking about one standard text which would make it easy to produce them rapidly. I actually think we already provide more info than many other comparable articles on wikipedia do. About the layout, I want us to agree on one first before I start "mass" producing the amphoe's. Waerth 13:43, 6 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- What do you think of the navigational bars at the bottom? Shall we add one like User:Ahoerstemeier/Amphoe Samut Prakan at the bottom of each Amphoe article? It may look a bit small for the provinces which have just a few amphoe, but for those with more then 10 it should look OK. andy 15:37, 26 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Great, if you translate "of" with "van" we can also use it for the nl wiki amphoe articles. I am going home now. 6 hours of wikiying is enough. Being a moderator can cost a lot of extra time sometimes .... Waerth 15:44, 26 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- OK, I added it to all the Amphoe of Samut Prakan now. I also changed the layout of it slightly, as it seemed to be a bit too high with too much empty vertical space. Eventually I will also add them on nl:, giving me more edits there :-) But seems I now have to work on maps for the Amphoe... At least we don't need to be ashamed of the small size of the articles - someone created stubs about all municipalities of Norway, which normally just contain the name, the province and the population - and a navigation bar. Thus ours have already more contents. andy 17:31, 26 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- I wasn't ashamed of our work anyway. You know how much harder it is to find info on Thailand than on Norway! BTW 99% of it is your work .... I am just taking care of the technical part ;)). If you want the edits on NL wiki I will wait with adding names, maps etc. . I understand it, the same reason that I want more edits on en wiki. Waerth 14:02, 27 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Where did you find these maps btw???? Another question out of curiosity does the data also contain the tambon info?? population, size, villagenames etc??? If so I would love to have the date for all of the tambon in the Nam Som district of Udon Thani!! Waerth 14:15, 27 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- I haven't found data on population or area of the tambon yet, nor a complete list of the mubaan. The best I have is siamvillage.net, for some tambon they seem to have at least a partial list of mubaan. However not for the one you need. thaitambon.com has a bit more text on each tambon, but as I cannot read Thai I just have to guess what it includes. If you just need a population number - the DOPA has population statistics down to tambon level, but the numbers of DOPA 2000 aren't the same as those for the census 2000 (and more than a different reference day would explain).
- The maps I generate from a CD with (carthographically rather poor) maps I bought at Pantip plaza last year. After cleanup and vectorizing of the pure outline, and some more editing I get them. As it's quite some more you should not add too many Amphoe a day, so I can keep up with it :-) As I doubt the location of boundaries can be copyrighted, and my edit is quite far from the original I hope that it's OK for the copyright.andy 21:40, 27 Jul 2004 (UTC)
I have two points we should discuss before continuing of adding more Amphoe articles.
- The naming of the article - should the article name include Amphoe/King Amphoe or not. Should the word Amphoe/King Amphoe be added into the infobox (I removed the ones you put there). I prefer it as short as possible.
- I think the naming should include it. Since it is the official name right? It also makes it easier if later an article pops up with the same name ... So we do not have to move it out to another lemmaname. Also because of the way I work. I basicaly coded all the amphoe names XXX in the word document, so all I do is replace XXX with amphoe name and the same for size etc. (AAA,BBB etc.) This saves me time! Waerth 13:54, 28 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- How to handle Amphoe which are named after a special location inside the Amphoe - like Phra Samut Chedi or Phutthamonthon. Or when the Amphoe is named after a geographical entity, like Ko Samui, or the main settlement is more-or-less well-known, like Chaiya or Hat Yai. I'd say we should put it into one article, splitting them later is no problem, and I hate stubs. andy 21:40, 27 Jul 2004 (UTC)
I do not mind stubs as long as they contain usefull info, which ours do! I think that is a case tot case basis and we will tackle them once encountered. For now I just want to put the data on wiki asap so we have a framework to work with. Waerth 13:54, 28 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Just noticed a little gotcha: when copying the infoboxes from dutch to english, don't forget to exchange the decimal separators - I also confuse it often as in German it's also different than in english. andy 21:30, 31 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Ok with a littlebit of luck ...... I will have my own internetconnection at home next week! I will continue the work on the amphoes then. Meanwhile not related but do you want to have a look here: Talk:Gerd von Rundstedt and at the double entry here:Talk:Karl Rudolf Gerd von Rundstedt, I do not know the procedures on en wiki for this .... City of Samut Prakan
[edit]If I understand the local administration of Thailand there is nothing like a "city of Samut Prakan". Only Pattaya is a special case (and Bangkok of course), but for all other there are only the changwat, amphoe and tambon administrations. However especially for the rural provinces the Amphoe Mueang covers much more area than the densely settled city, yet it has similar administrative ways for cities in Germany where a "city" may include surrounding villages, even if there are some kilometer of nature in between. Thus I don't think we need a separate article on the "city" and the "Amphoe Mueang", and thus the article should then be moved to Samut Prakan. And for Samut Prakan all of the amphoe is densely populated, thus there is no way to tell a city boundary anyway. Any comments? andy 08:12, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- For this amphoe no problem. Some Amphoe Meuang do have a seperate tambon with the city name ....... I think it is going to be a case to case base. I do not really like the amphoe name being out of the box. Because it now detracts when reading. The no colour no box list is ok. Do make a redirect from amphoe meuang Samut Prakan in case we later change our mind. Got to go. Since three weeks I am performing with a Thai comedy group. This weekend will be a tv appearance ... ! Maybe I should write an article on Thai comedy .... ;) Waerth 12:42, 8 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- For discuss does not seem in progress, Let me say something. Maybe Amphoe Mueang Something Something can be made in Samut Prakan (Capital). Because, as far as I know, Amphoe Mueang is not popular to mention capital for most of English speaking people at any cost and if they search for Samut Prakan by search engine and also if it comes up in the name of Amphoe Mueang Samut Prakan, they cannot identify what they are looking for.--Ramendra 21:08, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)
