gerrymandering?
[edit]this article doesn't seem to cover the gerrymandering phenomenon - well, doesn't seem to discuss the fact that HDB relocations often seem to purposely relocate strong opposition estates somewhere else to split them up. -- Natalinasmpf 15:51, 15 May 2005 (UTC)
And yet that is a very obvious circumstance... However, I did make some changes to the descriptive basis of the elections that indicate a bit more clearly that Singapore is governed by one-party rule and that in spite of the growth in opposition candidates, the government through some form of electoral manipulations, still took 82 out of 84 electoral elections (97.6% of parliament) in spite of winning only 67% of the overall vote. That by itself has a strong indication of gerrymandering, through the net effect alone. Stevenmitchell 08:05, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
- This has raised its ugly head again in advance of the likely Singapore election later this year. I would like to propose a specific Gerrymandering section in this article. There is already some explanation of this here: Gerrymandering#Singapore --TheroadtoWiganPier (talk) 05:05, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
Moving of article to "Singapore elections"
[edit]This article was moved to "Singapore elections", but I have moved it back as I believe the latter title is not so appropriate. Articles about elections in other countries are all in the form "Elections in XYZ": see, for example, "Elections in Australia", "Elections in the United Kingdom" and "Elections in the United States". There isn't a good reason for the article on elections in Singapore to be different. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 10:53, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
