Wrong word—

[edit]

In the following sentence: "Van Leeuwenhoek has been attributed as the first person to use a histological stain to color specimens observed under the microscope using saffron."

The word "attributed" is improperly used. "Acknowledged" would be more appropriate here. —Or perhaps the wording could be changed to: "The first use of a histological stain (he used saffron) to color specimens under the microscope has been attributed to van Leeuwenhoek." 2001:5B0:270F:3228:3147:99FB:E9E0:82FA (talk) 16:46, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistent use of capital letters for "van"

[edit]

Should it be "van Leeuwenhoek" or "Van Leeuwenhoek"? I think it should consistently be spelled "van Leeuwenhoek", but the article is inconsistent. Bueller 007 (talk) 22:27, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It should be "Van Leeuwenhoek" when his first name is not mentioned (which he himself spelled as Antoni, btw, without the E at the end), and "van Leeuwenhoek" when his first name is mentioned. So it's either "Antoni van Leeuwenhoek crossed the road", or "Van Leeuwenhoek crossed the road".
Either way, they keep omitting the "van" or "Van" from his last name in this article, despite the disclaimer at the top that "van" is part of the last name... 2607:FEA8:2C5C:3E00:94BA:C5C7:817:EA46 (talk) 13:06, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A discovery?

[edit]

I'm wondering why this is under "Discoveries""

"In 1702 he requested a book on Peruvian silver mines in Potosí."

The whole "Discoveries" section oddly written and needs cleaning. 2600:1700:5DD:310:15DD:465:C605:4E4E (talk) 15:40, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
