NBA Draft (s)
[edit]If you look at the NBA Drafts that have been worked on already, there are only two formats going. All of the drafts done are the same except 1989 NBA Draft. The 1970 NBA Draft and the 1998-to-2004 Drafts only do the first two rounds and have this format:
Pick | Player | Nationality | NBA Team | College/HS/Club Team |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Bob Lanier | USA | Detroit Pistons | St. Bonaventure University |
Now, the table is "old" HTML, which should be converted to Wikistyle instead.
The 1989 draft only does round one and looks like this:
- Sacramento Kings - Pervis Ellison, F/C, Louisville
I would vote for doing the first two rounds in a formal table, and then just list the other rounds like I entered them last night. What do you think? I also propose listing the PERSON first, it is what is most important, not the NBA team, which changes with every trade, people before teams, response? This looks like some project, with all of those teams, schools, and players, we need some kind of "bot" to convert at least the teams and schools to Wikilinki's, that would help.
(After you have read this, feel free to cut & paste it to the 1986 NBA Draft talk page. We should probable move it to the Talk page of List of NBA Drafts...???) WikiDon 20:26, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Sky Lopez VfD
[edit]Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. I was poking thru VfD and I noticed that you nominated an article for deletion. I've got no opinion on the article or its deletion, but I noticed that you did not actually create the nomination and its vote page in the technically correct way, using templates. Please look at the bottom of Wikipedia:Votes for deletion for instructions on how to nominate a page using templates so that all the correct sub-pages and links are created. Happy editing. Al Bruno III
[edit]I have placed a tag on the article Al Bruno III, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. I did this because the article seems to be a biographical account about a person, group of people, or band, but it does not indicate how or why he/she/they is/are notable. If you can indicate why Al Bruno III is really notable, I advise you to edit the article promptly, and also put a note on Talk:Al Bruno III. Any admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. You might also want to read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles. Please do not just remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. - CHAIRBOY (☎) 04:05, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
Anakin Solo
[edit]Hey, you added this bit to the 'Dead or Alive?' section:
Lucasarts has confirmed that a version of Anakin—either Solo or Skywalker—will appear in the forthcoming Legacy of the Force series. It has not been confirmed if this will be as a Force ghost, clone, or some other iteration.
Not saying you're lying, but can I see the source for this? I must see this with my own eyes...Probably Skywalker though. If it turns out to be Solo, it'll too good to be true... —Mirlen 17:45, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
- I went back and looked for it, and it turns out that "confirmed" actually means "probably" (Force ghost) and "possibly" (Anakin). Time does strange things, I suppose. Stilgar135 01:03, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
Request for edit summary
[edit]Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 7% for major edits and 12% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.)
This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 23:30, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Swarthmore clubs
[edit]could you move the swarthmore club stuff back? i moved that to other page because it's fairly trivial invormation that most people don't care about when they want to read about swarthmore college. if they want to see it, they can look at the clubs page. maybe that page should be retitled to "swarthmore college clubs and organizations" instead of "list of...", though.
thanks. -Easytoremember 02:13, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
nevermind. just read the deletion thing.
- If you want to start a comprehensive "Student life at Swarthmore College" page, I don't think you'd get too much grief from other Wikipedians. Anything starting with "list of", however, is immediately suspect, and when people feel that the essential information can be put somewhere else, there's not too amenable to keeping it around. Welcome to the Military history WikiProject!
[edit]Hi, and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated quite regularly. You can watchlist it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WPMILHIST Announcements}} there.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has a monthly newsletter; it will normally be delivered as a link, but several other formats are available.
There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Starting some new articles? Our article structure guidelines outline some things to include.
- Interested in working on a more complete article? The military history peer review and collaboration departments would welcome your help!
- Interested in a particular area of military history? We have a number of task forces that focus on specific topics, nations, or periods.
- Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every military history article in Wikipedia.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the project coordinators, or any experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Kirill Lokshin 16:03, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for trying to clear up the sourcing of the Ennis quote but the link you added doesn't work. I tried a few variations and nosing through their site but I'm getting nothing. If you could double check it then that'd be great. Thanks (Emperor 14:18, 25 August 2006 (UTC))
- That's rgeat - thanks for digging that out. It is the key quote and (as I suspected) it was probably dramed up as a promotional slogan (possibly for their pitch of the series) and so it was provngtricky to track down and that interview goes one better than just pinning down its first use - discusses their thinking behind it. It really helps. (Emperor 00:32, 4 September 2006 (UTC))

Capitalization for Jessica Drake
[edit]As you can see at k.d. lang and bell hooks, Wikipedia uses lower-case capitalization for proper nouns in cases where the subject chooses to be known in that way. An editor received an e-mail from a woman claiming to be drake [1]; her official website [2] and her production company's website [3] both list her that way. Stilgar135 18:05, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
- Wikipedia generally uses whatever name most people would expect to find an article at. Three of the four external links in the article spell her name with capitals (admittedly I have no idea how reliable IAFD or AFDB are, but IMDB is usually pretty good and they spell her with capitals and kd lang in lowercase, for example) and most of the first couple of pages on Google do the same. But frankly it's entirely unimportant and if you want to change it it doesn't bother me at all. --Cherry blossom tree 18:21, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
License tagging for Image:HelpingtheWorldtoSee.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:HelpingtheWorldtoSee.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

regarding Something Awful
[edit]As you might imagine, the paragraph in question has a kernel of truth -- SA members have a large Eve presence, and they're pretty unpopular in the game. But the deleted stuff was baseless garbage. Even if the bit about the alliance's collapse were true, can you imagine a citation that would allow the article to fairly claim "bad online attitude and unsportsmanlike game play"? That's pure opinion. In short, don't worry so much about how it looks to keep the article factual; avoid false balance. Twinxor t 18:34, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Lincoln article
[edit]- on this of yours, "A strict application of the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850 could have required return of fugitive slaves to their masters. Initially this did not occur as the slaves were classified as contraband of war, though Lincoln was unhappy with this because it implied that the Confederacy was an enemy state and thus had legitimacy." what actually was Lincoln unhappy with? that the slaves were classified as contraband of war? if so, who classified them as such? further, what was it that implied that the Confederacy was an enemy state? if this whole thing is true, it needs a much better paraphrase or a direct quote from Guelzo. i dont know what you're trying to say, which is why i restored a previous version. Image:Thomas Menino.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Thomas Menino.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok ☠ 03:01, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:King of Skiffle.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:King of Skiffle.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Flickr & Alan Light
[edit]Hi,
You can actually see the license for every individual Flickr picture, if you look right under "Additional Information" in the right column. I'm pretty sure Light cc-licenses everything, but it can't hurt to check before uploading. A few notes:
- Make sure you start out with the largest copy of the photo: you'll see a link above the picture that says "all sizes".
- Also, double check it hasn't been uploaded already; a lot of his stuff has.
- If you upload it to Commons (which I recommend), would you mind adding it to the "Alan Light" category? I've been trying to keep all of his stuff in there for easy reference.
Hope this helps. —Chowbok ☠ 03:47, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Notability of New Gold Dreams
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on New Gold Dreams, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because New Gold Dreams is an article about a certain website, blog, forum, or other web content that does not assert the importance or significance of that web location. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles, as well as notability guidelines for websites. Please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting New Gold Dreams, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Yankees Suck, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Conducting research on WikiProjects
[edit]We are professors at Carnegie Mellon University conducting research on how online groups operate, with a strong history of research on Wikipedia.
We would like to discuss collaborating with you with the goals of both improving integration of new members into your WikiProject as well as advancing the understanding of the science behind online groups.
Our recent research has shown that joining a WikiProject boosts editors' contributions to the project substantially, and that specific kinds of interactions between existing project members and newcomers encourage newcomers to contribute more and longer. We are now working on translating these findings into interventions that will increase the vitality of WikiProjects, helping them attract, motivate, and retain members who are knowledgeable and able to contribute to the project.
We have identified your project (Anthropology) as an initial candidate that we would love to work with moving forward based on your participants and the amount of assessment work your project needs accomplished. Please feel free to contact me (Prof. Robert Kraut robert.kraut@cmu.edu) with any questions and to find out more.
Information about our research can be found at http://community.hciresearch.org/content/improving-socialization-newcomers-wikiprojects.
If you are interested in this collaboration please contact Rosta Farzan at rfarzan@cs.cmu.edu or leave a note at Rosta Farzan's talk page at (talk)

The article Suk School has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Non-notable fictional school - no significant coverage in reliable independent sources.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Claritas § 15:55, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. The article Boy Blue (Fables) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Fails WP:GNG.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. TTN (talk) 02:27, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
