Population
[edit]Population 250,000? Isn't Walsall much smaller than Wolverhampton, which has a population of about that?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.177.173.216 (talk) 20:56, 20 October 2003 (UTC)
- The 2001 census says Walsall has a population of 253499 [1]. While Wolverhampton is listed as 236582 [2]. -- Popsracer 22:02, 20 Oct 2003 (UTC)
- Walsall borough has a larger population and land area than Wolverhampton, but Walsall borough includes the fiercely independant towns of Willenhall, Darlaston, Bloxwich, Aldridge and Brownhills, as well as the town of Walsall itself.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.173.111.26 (talk) 13:28, 20 December 2004 (UTC)
Dialect
[edit]how about somone put some stuff about dialects, "warro aer kid" "a yo aurite am ya" ya get the idea!! Paul from walsall— Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.93.21.68 (talk) 19:04, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Now-Defunct Concrete Hippo Info
[edit]As per the GFDL, a list of contributers to the merged article must be included. This list is now at Talk:Walsall/Concrete Hippo. The article was listed for deletion on 13 Feb 2006, and the ensuing debate led to a consensus to merge into Walsall and delete. Bratschetalk 23:06, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
Goldie Oldies
[edit]Walsall, would have looked a lot better if all those aold buildings around the place had not been mowed down in the seventies.
the problem in Walsall, is that the destruction of old buildings, [mainly pubs] is still going on.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Chopdat (talk • contribs) 17:47, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
RE: I agree that Walsall had much more charm before most of the old buildings were torn down and replaced by what is coined the 'Brutalist' style of architecture in the 1960's and 70's. This shows just how important it is for us living now to record (photograph) as much as possible about the town for others to learn from after all the old buildings have been 'mowed' down.--Cloudmachine 13:39, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Cheslyn Hay
[edit]Cheslyn Hay is not part of the town of Walsall. It isn't within the Walsall Urban sub-area, and isn't within the larger Walsall Metropolitan Borough.
- It does have a WS postcode, but then so does Lichfield. Steven J 17:02, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well on my mail it says Walsall, cheslyn hay is just off the landywood station— Preceding unsigned comment added by Diddy P (talk • contribs) 22:59, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Postal addresses are completely different to the actual towns. Walsall is simply the nearest Post Town to Cheslyn Hay, in exactly the same way as postally you would once have been "Cheslyn Hay, Walsall, West Midlands" even though Cheslyn Hay is within Staffordshire. See Post town. Steven J 22:21, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Town planning - a biased history?
[edit]The history section contains much which seems to be personal opinion. Espechially regarding the redevelopment of Walsall town centre, and the impact of new supermarkets on the historic market. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jpb1301 (talk • contribs) 00:11, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
The redevelopement of Walsall town centre is used as a study of poor 70's town planning. The current "experts" are also coming up with some weird ideas. Demolishing award winning buildings to build what looks like the set from Logan's run. The market is also in discussion with the coucil planning on moving it to a smaller out of the way location and making it German/French rather than a place you can actually shop.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Jnthnparkes (talk • contribs) 11:13, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Neighbourhoods incorrect
[edit]Although the names of the neighbourhoods are correct, highgate, for example misleadingly links to a district of london. please fix!— Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.92.188.63 (talk) 22:09, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
To tell you the Truth Highate is a real neighbourhood because I live just a road away from it!— Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.240.86.9 (talk) 22:56, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- I have removed various items from the list. The areas removed fall into three categories:
- Areas outside the Walsall Urban Sub-Area, the ONS's idea of the town itself - such as Aldridge and Brownhills
- Towns that are inside the Sub-Area, but split across more than one local authority and listed in the initial paragraphs as being "Other towns within the Borough" such as Willenhall
- Towns that are outside Walsall MBC such as Wednesbury
This article is about the town, not about the larger Metropolitan Borough of Walsall and should be treated as such. Fingerpuppet 21:49, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Where are half of the suburbs of Walsall? I mean Blakenall is missing for instance. I can understand people leaving out areas like Darlo that ay really Walsall, but surely areas like Blakenall count? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Simon B 7 (talk • contribs) 17:17, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- I note that this is still ongoing, with the recent addition of Willenhall. Willenhall is listed as "other towns within the Borough" in the lead section, is partially within Wolverhampton but that part within Walsall MBC is within the Walsall Urban Sub-division (hence is counted as part of the population of the town according to the ONS). It seems to me that either the lead section should be changed, or the "areas and suburbs" section changed as they currently do not agree. Which should it be? Fingerpuppet (talk) 09:16, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Poor grammar/spelling
[edit]This entire article needs to be seriously revised! There are a few well written parts and some sources have been quoted, namely in the section entitled "Arboretum and Illuminations", but in the majority of other parts, the spelling/grammar is awful. The section on "History" especially needs to be revised, as most of it is opinion-based and irrelevant information needs to be removed, for instance details about which supermarket is going to move where, etc. The whole point of Wikipedia is to give the (unbiased) facts about the subjects of the articles, if you have an opinion, the best place to discuss it is in the 'discussion' page and not the main article page (thanks to those who have used it). Another point is that the layout needs to be changed, as if you look at the article on the town Walsall is twinned with (Mulhouse in France), it has a column on the right-hand side of the page, summarising all the information about the town and, as a suggestion, the same should be done with this article. 144.173.6.66 16:28, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Photographs
[edit]I believe people visiting the page would like to see a few photographs showing Walsall's main 'attractions', key buildings, mentioned areas etc.
Can the recently submitted 'blue' photograph of Walsall market be replaced very soon for a higher res file. It really brings down the quality of the page.--Cloudmachine 13:38, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Cleanup
[edit]What areas, exactly, need cleanup?? --Flexwick32 09:01, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- "which is the highest level it has been in its history of over a century."
- Does this mean that the hockey club is over 100 years old and is playing at the highest level it ever has? Or is this an error?
- In ether case it needs to be looked at. - —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rjd.1892 (talk • contribs) 20:14
Featured article status
[edit]I would like to bring this article to featured article status, and all help is appreciated. On this talk page we need to list what needs to be done to the article, and tick it off with a {{done}} template when it's done.
Create a wikitable in the commented section below, and list the problems and a "done" column with date when article has had work done to it, per any criticisms etc.
All help appreciated! Thanks, --SunStar Net talk 09:13, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- I am prepared to help out. You may also want to raise the issue on the West Midlands WikiProject talk page. - Erebus555 11:37, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- I'm happy to help too. The article could do with conforming to WP:UKCITIES as well - something I'm currently trying to get Wolverhampton to do. Fingerpuppet 13:51, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Walsall County Borough
[edit]From 1889 until the implementation, in 1974, of the Local Government Act of 1972 Walsall was a County Borough and therefore not, administratively, part of Staffordshire.

Rob Halford
[edit]This article states that he was born in Walsall, yet on Hartford's Wikipage it states that he was born in Sutton Coldfield. A reliable reference needs to be found to settle his real p.o.b. Norum

Economy - Coal mines
[edit]I suspect a rephrase may be needed for the statement that "in the late 19th century the coal mines ran dry". Does this mean the coal mines ceased to hold water or that they closed down after exhausting coal seams?Cloptonson (talk) 21:25, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
