Online Ventures with IAC

[edit]

I inserted the link to FiLife.com, which is the joint venture between DJ and IAC with ownership of 50/50. However, it was removed and I would like to understand why.

dow jones history

[edit]

The author(s) omit to mention what the DJIA was 24 October 1929, when the Crash occured, and how much it lost that day. Also omitted is the amount lost "Black Monday" 1987.

As a side note, I found locating this comment area nightmarish. A simple "comment" space might be in order.

Buyout and Greenspan

[edit]

There is no reason to have the section about Greenspan. He is mentioned only because he is a liberal and liberals do not like Murdoch. He is not even a serious contender. In fact, there is no reason to even write about the buyout until after the dust settles and the deal is finalized. Everything is fluid and can change overnight. Should we change the name 'wikipedia' to 'speculapedia' or 'meddlepedia?' To have this section, but then not go into the real history of DJ, etc., is just amateur. 70.218.159.207 17:20, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This sections reads like a news story that's been plagerised, I'll re-look in the morning - Estel (talk) 04:46, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Telerate

[edit]

Why does "Telerate" redirect here when there is no mention of Telerate in the article? I came to Wikipedia, as I'm sure others have, to find out something about Telerate; if I wanted to find out about Dow Jones, I'd have looked for that. Telerate should have its own article or a section here. Languagehat (talk) 21:30, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Was about to ask same question. No single mention of telerate within the article. See also Telerate, in French --Gerdami (talk) 10:27, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dow Jones News Service

[edit]

I just retrageted the redirect Dow Jones News Service to Dow Jones & Company#Enterprise media. (It had been targeting the no longer extant "Electronic Publishing" section.) Could someone more familiar with the material verify that this is the proper target and decide if mention of the the DJNS (official site) belongs in the article. -- ToET 12:35, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 13 January 2019

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: not moved. A look at the Dow Jones edit history shows that various editors have made this (1) an article about the company (2) an article about the DJIA (3) a disambiguation. A fair argument can be made that this should be a disambiguation, but I'd say the company is primary for the base name, but adding "The" refers to the market index: "The Dow Jones" or more commonly, simply "The Dow". Since this has been contested I think keeping the primary redirect is good. In any event, we can't just change primary topics without passing through a disambiguation phase first, as there are a lot of links assuming that Dow Jones means the company, for example Commodore VIC-20 and Christopher Cox. Several notable people have worked for the company. wbm1058 (talk) 13:36, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
