Here [1] I am being besmothered with HOMOSEXUALITY by Tabib, which he has extended to my USER PAGE!!!

--Baku Ibne 11:52, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

  • Okay, let's examine this step by step. In your entry on Vandalism in progress you stated "Very unsavory attack on my userpage [2] by vandal Tabib who is trying to besmother my reputation with talk about him and myself in connection with "HOMOSEXUALITY", in public. I categorically object to Tabib'advances..." What he wrote on your talk page was in no way an "unsavory attack" nor did he make any "advances." The wording you used implied that Tabib has been making homosexual advances toward you. Nothing could be further from the truth. In his post on your talk page he did not mention homosexuality at all. In the post you linked to on my talk page, he does mention that he researched the word "ibne" and found that it had homosexual connotations in Turkish (a true statement). That was after you wrote in this post "YOU ARE 100 percent "IBNE", Tabib!" Tabib did not make an "unsavory attack" on either your user or user talk pages, he has not attempted to imply that you are homosexual (although it appears that you may have attempted to imply that about him), and he has made no "advances" toward you. Your entry on Vandalism in progress was blatantly untrue. I removed it for that reason and informed you of that. You see, I did read carefully. SWAdair | Talk 07:26, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)

User:Vaoverland - administrator

[edit]

Thank you for supporting my appointment as an administrator. I appreciate the pat on the back this represents. It felt nice to read the comments during the voting. Please let me know if you see something I should be doing as admin, as I intend to be fairly passive unless it is clear I should do otherwise. Thanks. Mark in Richmond. Requesting a comment about Naming Policies

[edit]

Hello and greetings
I am an student from the National University of Saint Mark in Lima, Peru, or also called UNMSM.

First i want to say thank you to giving me wellcome to wikipedia and as wikipedist i wish to have your personal opinion about the naming policy of calling the university Saint Mark instead San Marcos.

I am supporting Saint Mark based in the opinion of the Catholic Church (the same institution which named the university in the first place) precedent of anglicise the name.[[3]] Article from Catholic Encyclopedia.

This user called User:Viajero is trying to impose his point of view even without reach a compromise about the use of the anglicise name, by his own is destroying and modifying all articles that has the name National University of Saint Mark replacing by his point of view of the name.

I am still a newcomer to wikipedia, but i dont think so i deserve to be treated this way. Please it is urgently to have your opinion about this in the following link Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#Interpretation of WP Naming_policies.Thank you to take time to read my dissertation. Have peace and prosperity. HappyApple 04:23, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

  • I checked into it and I have to agree with Viajero on this one. The English-speaking world seems to overwhelmingly use "San Marcos" when referring to this institution. SWAdair | Talk 11:08, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)

When I had my nickname renamed, I implicitly gave up the right to edit as shallot, we had agreed that it will remain reserved and pointing to myself in order to avoid confusion with old references (or if someone tries to register that account and impersonate my old self :). I didn't have any problem. Are you trying to block by clicking on the [block] link, or by typing in the User's name? Don't use "User:" at the beginning.

Want me to do it? RickK 07:29, Mar 18, 2005 (UTC)

How odd. I'd discuss it with a developer, if I were you. Maybe bring it up at WP:AN/I? RickK 07:41, Mar 18, 2005 (UTC)

How did your test go on the other computer? RickK 19:53, Mar 18, 2005 (UTC)

Hello, I have a request about San Marcos

[edit]

Hello, I'm a person that its constantly looking on some wikipedia stubs and always tries to add more information to them. However, on the page of National_University_of_San_Marcos, I realise that most of what another user (I think is Hasdrubal) does is delete some information withouth a proper disscussion.

HappyApple took the proyect to expand the info about the University, regardless if its call "San Marcos" (wich I think is correct) or "Saint Mark" (Wich I don't abject also) and I think it's a little unfair that most of his work is ignored by some other user. It may be dificult to understant, It is true (since english is not his native language) but this could easely being solve by asking the help of another experimented grammatic Wikipedist.

I have reverted the page to the last modification of HappyApple and I will request that another english-wikipedist take a look and help me to arrange it and make it more accurate. Please fell free to reply at my talk page. Thanks a lot for your help. Messhermit 03:31, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

  • (Cross-posted to User_talk:Messhermit) Thank you for the note on my talk page. It seemed to me that the version I reverted to retained most of the substance of the article, but apparently more than one person (you and HappyApple, at least) feel otherwise. I will try to make some time later to edit HappyApple's version for grammar only. After I do, I'll drop you a note asking you to review my edit for accuracy, to make sure I didn't accidentally change the meaning of anything. Happy editing! SWAdair | Talk 03:48, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks a lot! The article looks much better now. I will find info about the ALumni section, an leave only the ones that have an Article. Once Again, Thanks. Messhermit 15:19, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hi SWAdair -

it seems that Messhermit was put off by Viajero's welcome notice on my page (to judge from his reply). I am quite grateful to HappyApple for having written an initial version of the San Marcos article; however, his English is not very good, and the page needed some major pruning and reshaping, anyhow. It seems that HappyApple is even newer than I am to Wikipedia, and feels personally hurt when a single one of his sentences is deleted - I know his feeling. Hasdrubal 17:51, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Terms of disparagment vs. common use insults

[edit]

Recent redirect may not quite qualify as a "Term of disparagement" and may be better served as a link to Insult or, likewise, the updated entry in Wiktionary. As a term of common-usage, may be apt to make more accurate distinctions between relatively benign terms such as that and ethnic slurs.

Kudos.

Hello

[edit]

Hello SWadair, I'm not sorry for putting my "No sysop is above the law" message on Neutrality's talk page; Now I'll tell you why I did so. While looking on Wikipedia's Block Log I noted you had blocked Neutrality (Ben Locke) for the period of 24 hours and a big smile came on my face. The reason why I was so happy Neutrality had been blocked was because he was rude to me in the past. This reminds of the time a classmate of mine (named Meggie) in the Second grade didn't do a her homework; I was so happy that day! I never did my homework, but because she was a mean to me I was quite happy when she did get in trouble for not doing it. --Anon

  • In other words... spite, gloating, taunting, revenge and related negative reasons. I understand the desire, but I really don't think it was appropriate. You could have felt the same satisfaction without deliberately antagonizing him. We are here to build an encyclopedia. Thanks for taking "care of the red-tape side of things" on the VfD on my article. Wholism

[edit]

I am new to wiki and have been trying to establish a wholism page, but have been subject to constant harrassment by a particular user. My initial contribution was put on delete a week or so ago supposedly by Mel Etis, but I noticed that the delete initially came from an alias page. Several people voted on the page, one of whom was just a page name, prior to me making significant additions including citations. Someone who again is only a page name has now deleted wholism and redirected it to holism. I am not familiar with wiki procedure, but I am slowly learning. Could you please confirm that what has happened to the wholism page is acceptable and if not, could you please re-establish it and offer it some sort of protection? --Ogb 05:46, 14 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou for your reply. However, the consensus was not 2/3rd for redirection to holism. In addition I could quite easily have established name only pages to vote for the site as I believe one user has done.--Ogb 06:02, 14 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again for your reply. Not a very pleasant introduction to the wiki site. I would just as soon delete my contribution entirely since it apparently won't be available for general viewing. Is there any way I can do this?--Ogb 06:39, 14 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Whilst the redirection of wholism might have happened in accordance with the rules, the rules are dishonest. When the deletion notice was put on the page, the page held very little information. All the delete/redirect votes were based on the page as it then stood. The delete notice quite clearly stated that the page could be added to. I spent a considerable amount of time putting references, links, and further information on the page over the subsequent days. These quite clearly demonstrated that wholism and holism are not the same thing. The only vote that was made subsequent to this information being in place was a request for an edit to add a comparison between wholism and holism and a link between them. The earlier votes simply did not refer to the page as it stood when it was redirected. The voting process is dishonest and based more on some editors' prejudices than on the weighing of the evidence presented. Wholism is not holism whether my analysis of wholism is acceptable to wiki or not, and it should not be redirected to holism. Neither is the word 'whole' the same as holism. In consequence the word 'whole' should also not be redirected to holism as it is at present. The words wholism and whole should stand alone in their own right even if they remain blank pages.--Ogb 11:48, 14 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

re Admin prep school

[edit]

Hello, again. I see that two messages up you said "Well, it's times like these I wish *I* had the power..." You certainly do enough cleanup around here that you could make good use of the extra buttons. I went checking. Kate's tools say you've made 2237 edits to the English Wikipedia, and that number is certain to be skewed on the low side because so many of your edits are tagging vandalism for deletion. Your interaction with others is always polite and level-headed, even after provocation. You're involved with cleanup all over the place. You've been here since April 11th. What?! April 11th? You've gotta be kidding. Remind me when July 11th rolls around and I'll be happy to nominate you. Many people use three months as a minimum to see if a person burns out after a brief rush of activity, to give time to gauge interaction skills, etc. One thing, though. You were using edit summaries consistently up until recently. Type an edit summary every single time. Every time. Everything we do here is available for scrutiny by anyone in the world, but edit summaries are an extra way of making our actions transparent. Many people weigh use of edit summaries heavily when considering an RfA. Otherwise, you're doing everything I would expect of an admin. It won't be long before your time for RfA rolls around. SWAdair | Talk 10:03, 19 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

2237 edits?!?... wow... scary... actually, the scariest thing is that all these edits are done part-time between uni classes and Real Life. It's not like this is my only hobby either, I have several. So, if anything, I'll be able to be *more* active in June/July when the semester ends.
Yes I have been forgetting edit summaries. Hm. I see by looking through Wikipedia:Unsuccessful adminship candidacies that that's one of the most common grievances... well, I've started making summaried comments again, so that evens things out. I'll have to remember to keep that up... hmmm...
Actually, my edits are now at 2270, heheheh. I'm catching up fast, you're only on 3970! Master Thief Garrett 13:01, 19 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Western Civilzation

[edit]

I dispute your speedy delete of this article. While I agree it is nonsense, it is not patent nonsense, and does not, in my reading of them, conform to the guidelines for speedy deletion. It should have gone to VfD, where it would have been soundly clobbered. Denni 16:00, 2005 May 21 (UTC)

  • I think it qualified as patent nonsense "Content that, while apparently meaningful after a fashion, is so completely and irremediably confused that no intelligent person can be expected to try to make heads or tails of it." However, since you disputed the deletion, I have undeleted and re-listed it for VfD. I think "that this whole shalopy was a load of dingo's kidneys derived by a mistake."  :-) SWAdair | Talk 03:00, 24 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Esata

[edit]

Seriously, why can't I add another artificial language to the list? Why are the other on the list worth staying and Esata is not? What are the criteria? Or is this a personal policy against me?

  • I wasn't involved with the VfD, but it seems the consensus was that this conlang is too new to be encyclopedic. In other words, it doesn't have a sufficient number of users to be notable. Once it gains popularity, you could make a case for re-instating the article. In the near future, however, the VfD consensus has to prevail. SWAdair | Talk 06:40, 24 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • That's sad... It really feels like a slap on my face for no reason.
      • I'm sorry. I know. No one meant anything personal against you. The votes were honest evaluations by people about whether the topic was notable enough for inclusion in an encylcopedia. The concept of notability is often fuzzy (an obscure Dutch painter may have an article, but a newly-released book by a previously unpublished author may not), but it is that concept that ensures Wikipedia is not overrun by advertisements and articles about people's pets. I'm sure no one meant anything personal by it. Umm.. I hate to have to mention this after your last comment, but it needs to be said. Wikipedia doesn't allow articles that consist of nothing but external links. You can contest deletion of an article at Wikipedia:Votes for undeletion, but I have to warn you that any article deleted according to policy is highly unlikely to be re-instated. WP:VfU is mainly to contest the legitimacy of a deletion process (i.e. didn't follow policy), not to contest the result of a debate. SWAdair | Talk 06:54, 24 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Why can't I find "Esata" on the deletion list so I can contest it's delition legitimity? Gebeleizis. 6:46 GMT

I'm just really sarcastic when it comes to the junk that appears on VfD.

The "killed with a very large axe" bit is actually one of David Gerard's bits from the mailing lists. He was going off on people who use "delete - non-notable", but finished off by noting that most things on VfD still need to be removed in the manner prescribed. Now that I look at the actual message, he said "big", not "large". -- Cyrius| 06:29, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I have the torrent piped to my Gmail account, so there's a big tank to hold the flood, and it's relatively easy to skim a whole thread. Not to say that it isn't fairly repetitive. Hi there! I noticed that you've taken it upon you to delete uncertified RFCs. I think that's a good idea, as an uncertified RFC is close to a personal attack in most cases.
